I target ornamental decoration as a stereotype of female craftsmanship. This results in a series of countless small two- and three-dimensional works that form a rhizomatic network, serving as everyday mementos, monuments of remembrance, or memorials. Through the choice of motifs and compositions, themes such as power, violence, and manipulation are brought to the forefront. Floral patterns gloss over what was created, and continues to be created, as craftsmanship under subjugation. Devalued as a feminine tradition, these motifs nevertheless express constitutive characteristics of a community: pulling strings, developing ideas, or weaving networks. Seemingly harmless at first glance, my ornaments reveal their explosive power upon closer inspection. They evoke historical and symbolic associations. The images and objects contain a resistant, even combative, component: an arsenal of misinterpretation.
